At first glace, I thought Neatline would only be good for projects that involved both time and locations, but, after receiving the entire lesson about Neatline, I am beginning to see how I'll be able to use it in different scenarios as long as locations play some type of role in the project. I am glad that Colin Justine was able to show us the basics of Neatline in a pretty straightforward way. Without his instructions I don't think that I would have been able to figure it all out for myself or be able to think of different projects that would fit nicely with Neatline. I found it really interesting that you can create default modes for each of your different records so when someone clicks on it, they would be able to get a much better idea of what you are trying to show the audience. The one thing that I did not particularly like about Neatline was that there was no option to just search up locations, you had to give it your best shot and go looking for them. It is a little annoying searching through different areas for an exact location, especially if you have never been there yourself.

Neatline First Impressions
Although, one thing that I am excited about Neatline, is being able, too mark and show the different locations a book takes place to grasp a better understanding of the story. I have always glossed over the exact locations where a character's story might take place because I am just never quite able to grasp how location fits into everything. If I use Neatline though I believe that it will help me see the grand importance of different locations, if there is one, and be able to look at a book through a different lens.

Hey Monique! I totally agree with your comment about the default view in Neatline - it makes it a lot easier for the audience to see what you are trying to show them. I also tend to not give locations in a text the attention they deserve, so hopefully Neatline will help with that. If you make an exhibit on Neatline in the future, I would love to see it!
ReplyDeleteI agree that using Neatline helps you pay more attention to locations and learn more about the geographical and historical/cultural context through those locations.
DeleteMonique, I agree with a lot of what you've said about Neatline. What really resonated with me was the lack of software to just quickly search a location. It would be so much easier if we could just type in a location name. But , I do think it's already helped me learn a little geography, so I can't complain too much. Excited to see what you do with Neatline in the future!
ReplyDeleteHi Monique,
ReplyDeleteChanging the default views is a game changer for Neatline! It makes it way easier to see the actual location and you get to choose how much or how little to show on the map (like very detailed or not). I agree that the inability to search up locations is a bit frustrating and that it should be added to Neatline. It would make the whole thing significant more usable and efficient. However, I agree that it is great to see all the locations in respect to each other and better visualize what we are reading. If you make a Neatline, I would be excited to see what you come up with!
Hi Monique,
ReplyDeleteI share a lot of similar opinions that you have towards Neatline! I do think that it's a pain that you have to manually navigate the map to find your location. I think it would be much easier to use if there was a search up feature!
Hi Monique! I also struggled with not having an option to search up locations! Learning to use Neatline definitely taught me to be more patient and realize that artistic projects can and should take time. However, sometimes the technical side of using Neatline can take away from the actual purpose of the project.
